On September 6, 2005 an environmental writer for the Sun Times reported that there has been “a massive invasion of the United States by the great gray owl”
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-owl06.html
and that field experts “have nearly 700 feathered carcasses on their hands”.

The experts weren’t quite sure what’s causing  the incredible influx of the birds who are primarily found across Canada, Alaska as well as northern Europe and Asia, but according to the Times collections manager Dave Willard said there “maybe more to come”.

'How odd?' I thought.

Owls have always fascinated me. As a child I used to have a reoccurring dream about the bird, always the same events. Watching my father and his brother cutting wood out in front of the house. The howl of the a wolf. Being abandoned outside to fend for myself. Running through the woods the wolf closing in. At the hoot of an owl, I’d climb a tree and return the owl’s hoot… and the wolf would pass me by.

As I grew older I learned more about the myth and folklore produced throughout various cultures in surrounding the globe by the bird which Shakespeare called ‘The Fatal Bellman’ who’s shriek gave ‘the stern’st good-night’.

Her sudden frightening shrieks and ominous calls echoing in across darkness make it no mystery why the bird is usually seen as an evil omen, a symbol of impending doom and misfortune.

The folklore of native Americans is rife with superstitions regarding the owl. The Apaches believed dreaming of an Owl meant imminent death. The God of the Dead was represented by the burrowing variety according to the Hopi mythos. Italian and Romanian cultures also feared the call of owl, as did the Japanese who associated the creature with looming fatal tragedies.

Down in Louisiana where the recent Hurricane Katrina has dashed the city of New Orleans to ruins and caused countless deaths, old folklore of the Cajuns said that if you thought you heard an owl’s hoot, one should get up from bed and turn your left shoe upside down to stave off catastrophe.

The Ancients

In ancient history Artemidorus Daldianus or Ephesius, a renown diviner of the second Century said to dream of an Owl meant that a traveler would be shipwrecked or robbed. Carved in stone, one of the haunting birds is found on an ancient Mayan bas-relief in present day Guatemala in a scene depicting the death of a Mayan ruler in 726 C.E.
Ancient Babylonians believed the call of the bird signified the cries of a woman who died during childbirth. The Egyptians represented the sound for the English letter "m" by a picture of the owl. On page 236-237 in the Dictionary of Symbols by J.E. Cirlot, the owl is described as follows, “In the Egyptian system of hieroglyphs, the owl symbolizes death, night, cold and passivity. It also pertains to the realm of the dead sun, that is, of the sun which has set below the horizon and which is crossing the lake or sea of darkness.” In a work called Tarot of the Bohemians, renowned occultist Papas (1865 d. 1916) attributed the same corresponding letter in Hebrew (mem) to Tarot Trump called 'Death'.

The Arabs were known to call the owl "the mother of ruins."  A sentiment echoed by Biblical Job after his own ruin in Job 30:29 “I am a brother to dragons and a companion to owls. The demoness Lilith/Lilit wife of Samael/Satan, said to have been worshiped by the Jewish exiles in Babylon was associated with the owl in the KJV, albeit some scholars believe dubiously.

:Isaac Asimov repeated this in his guide to the Bible

Isaiah 34:14... the screech owl shall also rest there....

"The Hebrew word translated here as 'screech owl is 'Lilith' and that is the name given to a monster of the night. It is derived from 'lilitu', the name given it in Babylonian mythology and that is itself derived from the Semitic word for 'night'. The Revised Standard Version strengthens the verse by making it read: 'there shall the night hag alight'. "

Influenced by the "screech owl" translation of the KJV some scholars have attributed Lilith to the famous Burney relief (of the Norman Colville collection dating to ca. 1950 B.C.), a sculpture of a woman with bird talons as feet, and Owls at each side. The link is forged due to Sumerian prologue to the Gilgamesh epos, in which a female demon named  ki-sikil-lil-la-ke (who translators identify as Lilith)  is described in a scene that the 'Burney Relief' seems to echo. A thousand years after the time of the relief, circa the 9th Century B.C., the Babylonians had believed in a whole class of these she-demons called the Lilitu who would roam during the hours of darkness, hunting and killing .newborn babies and pregnant women

The Romans

Not only did the hoot of an owl indicate imminent death but it was a bad omen to see the bird during the day. It was written that the demise of Julius Caesar, Augustus, Commodus Aurelius, and Agrippa were all preceded by her ominous call. Additional superstition had the Romans nail the carcass of such creatures to the doors of their houses or burn them and spread their ashes in the Tiber River in order to evade any further ill..

Similar to accounts of the Babylonian She-Demon Lilitus, Roman myth tells of a class of bird beast called the Strix (the Greek word for Owl) that was thought to have eaten human flesh and sucked the blood of children, illustrated in the story of Polyphonte. For her cannibalism she was said to have transformed into a Strix "that cries by night, without food or drink, with head below and tips of feet above, a harbinger of war and civil strife to men."

In 54 BC after Crassus and his army were defeated at Carrhae, the streets of Rome were in chaos with fighting and murders, omens and dread. Historian Cassisu Dio noted an Owl appeared in the Center of Rome and was captured fueling whispers in the senate and streets that senator Pompey should be made dictator in hopes that law and order might be returned to the land. (While the Senate avoided giving Pompey absolute dictatorial status, they entitled him sole Consul without a colleague lending him broad sweeping powers. Civil War occurred not far after)

The Greeks

While most world cultures might view the Owl as the 'harbinger of death or war', to be fair, not all historical cultures thought evil of the creature.  For example, the revered Goddess of War and Wisdom Athena was associated with the bird in ancient Greece.  The Owl was her loyal companion and servant although there is some evidence to suggest that in early times, "that Athena was an owl herself, or a kind of bird-goddess in general."

Interestingly enough the planet Venus, then called the Morning Star, was identified with the Athena in Greece, the goddess Minerva in Rome, Ishtar in Babylon, Baal and Lucifer-Mazzaroth in Judea. In Isaiah (14: 12-13) the proclamation "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, Son of the Morning! How art thou cast down to the ground Who did weaken the nations!." originally referring to the King of Babylon, was later identified with Satan by St. Jerome in the 5th Century (although exist links relating the Lucifer/Satan mythos in 1st century Judean texts).

But regarding the Owls, the devotees of the Goddess of War were not the only ones to appreciate the mysterious and eerie creature. Besides Buddhists and a few Native American tribes there has grown a modern day 'cult' of Owl 'worshipers' in the United States today.

The Bohemians

"O thou, great symbol of all mortal wisdom, Owl of Bohemia, we do beseech thee, grant us thy counsel..." such is the prayer of the Bohemian Club acolytes. An exclusive men's club for men located some 75 miles north of San Francisco in a deep wooded grove of 2500 acres of land. The grove contains a massive moss covered pagan idol in the shape of a 40ft high Owl. During their annual gatherings groups of men, dressed in red pointed hoods and red robes, carry torches and play funeral music. An open coffin containing a wooden skeleton with skin of black muslin is carried towards their 'God'. Strange rituals are performed as the attendees (known as "Bohos" or "Grovers") act out a mock sacrifice of the black muslin child before the giant Owl. Photographs released by the club also reveal strange rituals with wealthy well connected and generally white men involved in mock hangings

and an African American child tied down helplessly.

Although known for attracting the cream of the crop of American society and even foreign dignitaries, of course not all the intellectual and political elite were invited to play in the Boho's odd Owl games. While the Bohos were prancing about the forest performing their mock ritual sacrifices of children, Republican Senator John Decamp from Nebraska, was investigating claims of children who had alleged bizarre ritual and sexual abuse at the hands of well-connected politicians and businessman, otherwise known as the Franklin Cover-up.
http://www.politicalsoundoff.com/home/the-franklin-coverup.html
The investigation was born out of the arrest of one Lawrence King jr. who was in charge of running a North Omaha credit union. A prominent fundraiser for the GOP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOP
who sang the national anthem at both the 1984 and 1988 Republican conventions, and was officially listed by the as the NY Times as, quote, "Fastest-rising black star in the Republican Party,” before pleading guilty to embezzlement of millions.

King was also alleged to have been involved in, or the leader of, a child-sex trafficking group in Nebraska that had connections to Washington Lobbyist Craig Spence
http://www.thelawparty.org/FranklinCoverup/otherfranklin.htm
who according to the Washington Times was being investigated for his role in a homosexual prostitution ring which ensnared the Reagan/Bush White House. Mr. Spence was found dead in a Hotel room from an apparent suicide some time before testifying or going to trial.

During the course of his investigation, Senator Decamp encountered  Paul Bonacci, one of Larry King's alleged victims. After amassing various evidence and having over 20 potential witnesses suddenly die or commit suicide before going to trial, Decamp assisted Bonacci in winning a million dollar judgment in federal court against King for his prolonged and often ritualistic abuse. From prison, King first challenged the judgment
http://www.vote.org/silence/Urbom1.jpg
but later simply dropped the appeal. One of the odder accounts of Bonacci was that of being forced to participate in a snuff film of a child murdered on July 26, 1984 in California in 'an area that had big trees.' Bonacci told tales of an enormous, moss-covered Owl and men dressed in hooded red robes. When shown a black and white photo of the 40ft moss covered Owl at the Grove, Bonacci quickly identified it as the site of the July 1984 snuff film. Although this testimony has been available to law enforcement officials since mid-October 1992, no official investigation has been made.

Regarding Bonacci's claims, neither the Bohemian Club nor their Owl worshipping members, (who are said to amount around 2,500 members, with a combined wealth of an estimated $100 billion )

reported  gay porn star "Chad Savage"  apparently took time off from making thousands of dollars doing skin flicks, so he could somehow get past rigorous employee pre-screening in order to service the world's elite in the capacity of a 'waiter' during their annual meet-up. The Grovers seemed to shrug these stories off as easily as the White House shrugged off the 'James Guckert, Gay Escort/Conservative Christian White House reporter formerly known as Jeff Gannon' scandal.

But perhaps after hearing of such accounts we might have insight as to why former President Nixon, before he was removed from office, was recorded as having said that the Grove was 'the most faggy goddamned thing you could ever imagine'', or why on June 11, 1993 The Washington Times reported, "Presidential counselor David Gergen resigned yesterday from the all-male Bohemian Club, three days after saying he would not run around naked at its annual Bohemian Grove encampment."

Established in 1872 in San Francisco the Bohos began camping on the site of the present Bohemian Grove  in 1891 but didn't officially acquire the land until 1901. For two weeks around Midsummer every year political and business dignitaries (as well as some artist/theatre/entertainment types) converge on what Herbert Hoover once called “the greatest men's party on earth”, to engage in weird occult-tainted manly fellowship. Not only do high ranking representatives from major military contractors, oil companies, banks, utilities and national media attend the event but apparently every Republican U.S. president since Calvin Coolidge ( & some Democrats) as well as many cabinet officials.

Some of the most prestigious members have included: Henry Kissinger, Karl Rove, George Shultz, S. D. Bechtel, Jr., Thomas Watson Jr. (IBM), Phillip Hawley (B of A), William Casey (CIA). and Ralph Bailey (Dupont). George W. Bush,  A. W. Clausen (World Bank), Walter Cronkite, and William F. Buckley, George HW Bush, Dick Cheney, Malcolm Forbes, Gerald Ford, Newt Gingrich, Alan Greenspan, Alexander Haig, Herbert Hoover,Richard M. Nixon, Colin Powell,Ronald Reagan, William Randolph Hearst, Jr., Charles Scripps, of the Scripps-Howard newspaper chain, Nathan Myhrvold, Former Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft, John Major, former Prime Minister of U.K., William Casey, former CIA director, John Lehman, former Navy Secretary, Tom Johnson, president of CNN and former publisher of the Los Angeles Times.

Besides drinking heavily all day and night, urinating on ancient redwoods, dressing in strange KKK-esque red robes,

Grove members representing the government, the military-industrial complex, and financial sectors meet and make major policy decisions. Nelson Rockefeller gave up a run for the presidency after his speech failed to move his fellow campers, and according to Van Der Zee and other published sources, Bush asked Cheney to be his running mate in 2000 at the Grove. Reportedly it's the place where Nixon advised Ronald Reagan to stay out of the coming presidential race in 1967, and where Edward Teller and others in the Manhattan Project mapped out the atomic bomb in the autumn of 1942. another attendee, was said to have been endorsed for his California run by the Grovers. Bohos are known to participate in speeches, known as "Lakeside Talks",
http://www.sonomacountyfreepress.com/bohos/highlights.html
wherein high-ranking officials offer information not available to the public-at-large. Some past speeches included: "The Coming Energy Transition", "Military Secrets of the Ocean, Atmosphere & UFOs", "China, Taiwan & the U.S. in the 21st Century", "Direct Democracy--Curse or Blessing?", "Africa--Are We Wasting Our Time?", "The Imperative of American Leadership", "Rogues, Terrorists & National Security in the Next Century", and "Defining a New World Order".

When looking at the Boho's agenda and the individuals involved, one can begin to wonder whether or not this elite 'Brotherhood of the Owl' had any influence on Dwight Eisenhower (also a past attendee of the Bohemian gatherings) when he made his farewell address to the nation.
http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/ike.htm
In this speech he had said "we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex" whose "total influence – economic, political, even spiritual – is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government." Equally, we can recall President Woodrow Wilson's words:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0937765023/002-8581480-9355263?v=glance
"Some of the biggest men in the U.S. in the fields of commerce and manufacturing know that there is a power so organized, so subtle, so complete, so pervasive that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it". Is it possible that these Owl worshipers were amongst his concerns?

The fact is we will probably never know... much in the same way we will never know whether or not amongst the obvious and blatant freemasonic symbols on the dollar bill, what precisely that hidden microscopic owl is doing there.

Neither will we ever be certain whether those plans for the National Mall surrounding the White House, the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capital proposed by the McMillan Commission
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=McMillan_Commission&action=edit
in the same year that the Bohemian Owl worshipers legally acquired their grove in California, had anything to do with why there appears to be a Giant Owl surrounding the Capitol Building.

And so when we recall the Sun Times Report
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-owl06.html
of the strange owl invasion of the United States that has been occurring over the last few years, being modern and reasonable people... we need not be alarmed and look upon the phenomena with the silly superstitions held by our predecessors. No, it's quite likely that the Owls had invaded the United States quite some time ago, and their talons now buried deep with within the structure of our government and institutions, their 'wisdom' is shaping our laws and our society, their calls are echoing in that blackness of night which has been our ignorance. Of course, I suppose it's only natural that when we reflect on the recent unfortunate tragedies that have been afflicting our country, along with the slow and steady death of our Bill of Rights.... that we should be left wondering if some superstitions are valid... and furthermore, whether or not the Romans had the right ideas for solving their Owl problems...

Perhaps the Potomac could replace the Tiber?

The bat that flits at close of eve

Has left the brain that won't believe.

The owl that calls upon the night

Speaks the unbeliever's fright.

 William Blake

The documentary that no one was supposed to see. This is a rough-edited version with a few missing scenes, and may be the only version in existence. John de Camp heroically investigates and confronts a child sex ring that goes all the way up the political ladder.
